Who is The Salsa Dance Floor?
We teach using a proprietary method called Sistema. It's based on four key principles. We teach these starting in the beginning, in personalized classes called Intro classes. This continues once you move into a group class.
Key principle 1 - Personal learning curve.
- Learn at your own speed when you start, or what you don't know will stay with you
As simple as salsa is, most people are surprised at the learning curve when you first start. So to make it easy, we start everyone off on their own in what we call Intro classes. This is to make it easy to learn at your own speed. In the first few classes, the difference in learning speed can be about 15:1. That might make the class way to slow for you or way to fast. Your own speed is the perfect speed when you start.
Key principle 2 - Tension control.
- Learning to relax and letting go of tension is the key to dancing well
You're probably alot more tense than you think you are. And it will show up as soon as you put your hands on your partner and try to move them in rhythm with the music. Tension control and calm is by far the biggest key to dancing well and having fun on the dance floor.
Key principle 3 - Simple patterns.
- Dance with simple patterns that are easy to remember and execute
Salsa is danced as random patterns strung together. We teach short patterns, so you don't need to memorize complicated patterns or what feels like choreographies. We teach the way you will be dancing salsa at a club or party.
Key principle 4 - Rhythm.
Some people think they are rhythmically callenged. If you're one of those people, it's typically an easy fix. You're doing some small thing that you are unaware of that's messing you up.
The way to start is by registering for your first Intro class.
